PinoyMetal.org
Pinoy :: Filipino. Pinoy is a normal, used to be slang, now somewhat patriotic term to describe a Filipino. Popularised by Francis Magalona in the 90′s, it is now a word accepted by Filipinos as interchangeable with the word Filipino itself. If you want to be truly historic about it, check out the Wikipedia article.
Metal :: Loud, powerful, energetic, emotional, inspiring music. Its history itself is too varied yet many will say it started in Birmingham in the United Kingdom by the mighty Black Sabbath. Today, Metal has evolved into a hydra with many intricate sub-genres with supporters from all corners of the globe.
PinoyMetal.org :: My attempt in making a website/blog/ezine to portray Metal through the eyes and ears of Filipino Metalheads. My aim is to publish articles about Metal, various opinions and topics affecting Filipinos, and the Filipino Metal scene. This is my gift to the hard working bands and people that continue to support the scene.
We talk about Metal.
Metal does not have any boundaries. It is universal.
On a personal note:
I started this website with the simple goal of broadcasting my thoughts and feelings about the music that I live for, Metal. This idea began when I was in my teens back in Manila, Philippines. I was looking for something to contribute back to the Metal community which at the time, was struggling to be alive. It was also a time where I saw a lot of wrong things happening in my country, and wanted to question why the situation as come to a point where corruption is the accepted norm.
The Philippines is a country with a Catholic majority. Much of what Spain’s and the US’s colonization efforts have pretty much left the country and it’s citizens in a state of constant confusion as to what their identity really is. What does it take for one person to be truly Filipino? I don’t think anyone can answer that.
What I can do though is to help Metal and Filipino bands get the recognition they deserve in the international scene. That’s where this website comes in. My hope is for PinoyMetal.org to become a succesful political and informative platform for Filipinos.
In general:
PinoyMetal.org is a place where we Filipinos can broadcast our thoughts on Metal and our country. I started this so that we Filipinos from all over the world will have one centralized outlet where anyone can get a highly concentrated dose of information.
